I just had perhaps the worst customer service experience of my life. I don't often write reviews, but this was so jarring I need people to know about it before they give DJ's their business. (Spoiler alert: don't.)
Last December I brought in my engagement ring for resizing on the recommendation of a friend. "Young Joe" sized it down. He kept the gold from the resizing and charged us $80 cash.
Yesterday, 10 months later, my ring broke right where it had been resized. I live out of state and won't be in MA for a while. I called Young Joe and explained what had happened.
He said I had two options: wait until I'm in MA for a repair, or send the ring to him in the mail. I said I'm uncomfortable putting this valuable item in the mail, and would prefer a refund so I can get it repaired as soon as possible. He got defensive, cut me off mid-sentence, raised his voice and accused me of breaking the ring.
YJ (loudly): "I don't know what you did to it, but I can tell you we are the most qualified for that job and you aren't going to find a better place anywhere else."
Me: "Right, and that's why I would hope you would honor your work and that if it breaks in under a year, you would give me my money back. I do not expect jewelry I bring to you to break in less than one year."
YJ, cutting me off: "It's been a year, how would you feel if I came to YOU in whatever your job is and said after a year that you didn't do a good job and had to give ME my money back?"
Me: "Sir, please stop talking over me. If you pride yourself on customer service, this is very surprising and I'm really disappointed because I was recommended to you by a friend, and did NOT expect to be treated this way."
YJ: "If I remember correctly, I went extremely out of my way to help you because you couldn't go anywhere else!"
When I reminded him again we could have gone elsewhere but had been recommended to him he yelled "THEN WHY DIDN'T YOU GO SOMEWHERE ELSE?!"
Me: "I will call my friend to relay what had just happened."
YJ: "Good, call her, tell her to call me and I'LL TELL HER WHAT HAPPENED."
He did all this to keep my $80. What a swindler.
